I'm trying to delete an unused prompt from a query. I can edit and add a new prompt but delete is grayed out.

A business partner has cloned a query with a thru date prompt. She would like to delete the prompt. I see it in the left hand column under prompt but no where in the criteria or SQL generated. When I right click to delete I can edit or add a prompt, delete is grayed out.

Hi,

On the left hand side of PS Query your prompt should have a bind number at the front of its name (e.g. :1, :2, :3 etc). Do you see that same bind number used in the criteria at all? If so, you'll need to remove that line from your criteria before you can delete the prompt. It may be hard to spot depending on the complexity of your query.

Alternatively, if you are using PeopleTools version 8+ you can delete the prompt through Query manager:

• Navigate to Reporting Tools > Query > Query Manager
• Search for your query and press the edit hyperlink
• Go to the prompt page and delete the prompt there

Query manager seems to be a lot smarter about deleting prompts and will automatically remove criteria references.
