Can you select another query in a query?

I'm trying to select the results of a select, e.g.
SELECT A.FIELD1, (SELECT B.FIELDB FROM TABLE2 B) FROM TABLE1 A
and it was suggested that I might be able to do this by making the embedded SELECT a separate query and then referencing it. Is this possible? If not, is there another way to do this?

I'm using the Peoplesoft Query reporting tool (version 8.9) and I can't just type a sql statement. I hope I'm giving you all the information needed:

Thanks in advance for your help. I have a recurrence set up with custom dates of the last day of each month -1. For 2009 I have only two dates left for this year, November 29 and December 30. When I try to schedule reports using this recurrence the instance is scheduled for December 30 and it skips November 29.

Hi,
I work on PeopleSoft HRMS, and particularly with cobol.
I have found the directory where cobol are stored opt/peoplesoft/pthr/src/cbl
but what I'm looking for is the place where is managed the link to our cobol.
Is it a configuration file on application server which manage those links or
is it in PeopleSoft 4tier in a specific page like people tools ? I dont' know…

Hello,
I have a question for those users out there using PeopleSoft with Active Directory. We are in the early stages of getting a common Active Directory setup for all of our locations. We want PeopleSoft to be the instigator for User Creation as 95% of all users are first created in peoplesoft. We would like this to all be real time if possible.

My questions are.
How are users out there currently using Active Directory with Peoplesoft?

Does PeopleSoft have the ability to query or write directly to Active Directory? If so how?

My initial thoughts were to have PeopleSoft instigate the creation of the user and then pass needed information to a web service or something to have the Active Directory account portion created. is this an ok method?

Looking for any assitance or direction one could provide.

Debugging / Tracing XML Publisher

Didn't realise XML publisher had a debugging / tracing option, but this great post by PeopleSoft / Oracle tips goes through how to turn it on.

I tested this on a unix system, and set the log path to a folder I created: $PS_HOME/log/XMLP. Note that the LogDir doesn't like environment variables, e.g. I had to hard code the path to $PS_HOME and it will throw an error if you specify a location it can't write to.

The PeopleSoft DBA Blog has a great article that explains good and bad uses of Oracle database links. Definitely worth a read if you use them at your organisation. As pointed out, potential alternatives include using application messaging or materialized views. Like most things, they can work very well if used in the right way.

Using SQRW tool I can run sqr reports when database is Oracle and HRMS,but when I want to run the sqr report using Finance and SQL Server I am getting error.

Showing error in Command prompt as

Oracle OCIServerAttach error
Cannot logon to the database.

When running Microsoft SQL Server as databse.why i am getting Oracle error.

IN SQRW i gave
Username = sa
Password = sa
Database = FSCM89

Username and Password are same as of Microsoft SQL Server database.

I think there may be settings to change my database from Oracle to Sql server.Can any one help me in resolving this issue.

Print Project Alternative for PeopleCode

A work colleague put me onto this great tip for modifying the XML in your exported project definition so that you can view PeopleCode in a better format.

A couple of catches:

Once you format the project XML it is no longer valid for re-import. So make a copy of it when doing this.
You need an additional file PeopleCodeViewer.xsl to exist in the same directory as your edited project XML. The source for this file is on the site, but doesn't work with a straight copy and paste so, here's a formatted version of it (note all credit goes to the original site for this code)
Simply open your edited project XML file in a browser to see the formatted results.

Component Interface PeopleCode

I am looking for a way to "pre-edit" and possibly cross reference data in the component interface. Here's an example:

I have inbound conversion data using a business unit from legacy. I need to change this field to be the new PeopleSoft business unit. I have a PeopleSoft record where I can access this cross reference, and would like to write the code in the Component Interface. My goal is to not touch delivered components/pages/record peoplecode, but to somehow use the component interface's peoplecode. Is this possible?

I was wondering why I got that strange Excel error STYK file… And I was wondering if you wanted to add to your 'No matching buffer found for level' error help that it doesn't matter what you pick from the list if your data is bad (mismatched) the error will show. I was concentrating on the particular record I selected. There were other keys mismatched not that one. And still the error shows up. I'm bookmarking your site. Very easy to use. Thanks a bunch!!!

I come from a BI background but don't quite understand how to create the actual cube source query in order to link the fields of the query to the dimension. Also please provide the cube definition so that I can relate the query to the cube input.

Web Service Help

I am new to PeopleSoft Development and have been following this post to try and get an exposed web service up and running to consume by a third party application.

I get through the whole tutorial but when I test the Web Service (WSDL) i get an error saying:

Retrieval of WSDL failed for wsdl name: NDFT.CI_MESSAGE_CATALOG1.1. (2,887) PT_INTEGRATION.GetWSDL.OnExecute Name:OnRequest PCPC:1627 Statement:33

I am not sure what this means? Also, we have multiple environments here so the environment where I created this Web Serive I preceeded the CI with the environment name and a dot.CI_MESSAGE_CATALOG1.1.wsdl

Any help would be great. Thanks for the wiki too. I have been searching for some good sites on PeopleSoft dev and they seem to be few and far between so am happy to see this.

Is this something that could prove to be a difficult task? We have been asked to look into the viability of integrating an outside
product that manages inventory with PS Financials 7.5. The integration will involve the automation of the Requisitioning portion of what we currently do manually for the most part. It seems like a rather large undertaking to take on this late in the lifecycle of
PS as it is being utilized in this corporation. I'm not sure whether naming the solution would be appropriate but if anyone has any
input, I'll be glad to provide you with further details.

Using the example from PeopleBooks returns an error on the ObjectGetProperty statement and I don't know what is wrong with it.
The code used is as follows:

Local object &WorkApp, &WorkBook;

&WorkApp = CreateObject ("COM", "Excel.Application");
&WorkBook = ObjectGetProperty(&WorkApp, "Workbooks");

etc
The message returned for the ObjectGetProperty statement says "Invalid parameter: CreateObject Excel.Application invalid class string for function ObjectGetProperty. The specified parameter is not correct for the function. It may be the wrong type of parameter (string, number, record, field etc) or an invalid value in this context.

Can anyone help?

An Expense Report (meant for claiming expenses) is created by an Employee through 'Employee Self-service' option under the main menu, while a manager may approve the same report by navigating to 'Travel and Expenses'. An expense report may have multiple expense lines corresponding to each expense type incurred.
Per-diem overage is the scenario when the daily expenses claimed for a particular location exceed the allowed limit for that location. At submission, in case of overage, a delivered error throws up
asking the user to enter a description in the location comment field on the expense line and then submit the report.
'My Wallet' (delivered functionality) is a place to store the favorite or frequent expense transactions which may be imported into an expense report while claiming expenses.
Question:
When the user submits the expense report with expense type lodging per diem or meals per diems, PeopleSoft is NOT calculating the PerDiem Overage when populated from My Wallet. However, when the manager opens the expense report for approval, the PerDiem Overage is calculated and they can?t approve the report until they add a description in the location amount comment field.

Opening CSV File gives "SLYK" error

A CSV file created by an SQR using the information in generating a CSV file form SQR was giving me the following error:

 SYLK: File format is not valid

Turns out that this is a known issue with Excel as reported in this Microsoft KB article (323626).

If the first two characters in your CSV file are a capital I followed by a capital D (ID) the error occurs. Change this and the error goes away. You can either change the name of the header field or use lowercase id.

If you have a field that has a zero value, but doesn't show anything on the page, make sure you have the Display Zero Value option selected in the page field properties:

Auto Find Highlighted Text in App Designer

If you put your cursor in the text you want to perform a find on and press CTRL + F, Application designer will open the find dialog box with the text field already populated, ready for you to perform the search. A nice little time saver. This works in both the PeopleCode and SQL editors.

I'm currently fixing some issues that appear to be due to some strange behaviour with global PeopleCode variables in Firefox only. Has anyone else come across this before?

For instance, a global variable is being set but then unset when moving between record PeopleCode, component PeopleCode and application package PeopleCode. The same code works fine when using Internet Explorer.

I'm using the term development flow to refer to the way in which you develop in PeopleSoft.

A typical approach is something like this:

Develop in your master development environment
Migrate to your development testing environment
Test in your development testing environment

For basic development, this approach works fine. However, I find that for more complex development, I like this approach better:

Prototype in a prototype/sandbox development environment.
Once you are happy with your prototype and have performed some basic tests, recreate (do not migrate) the changes in your master development environment.
Migrate to your development testing environment
Test in your development testing environment

The prototype first approach works really well when you aren't sure what your final solution will look like and you need to feel your way towards it. It does however require three development environments instead of two.

Everyone is different, but I figure it's useful to know how different people work. If you have a different approach or suggestion, please comment.

Problem with Outer Join in PSQuery

Hi,

I'm back again with another question!!

I'm trying to do an outer join in PSQuery and retrieve information from the job table. As the job table has an effdt Max Subquery in it I'm using the trick of placing OR A.EFFDT is NULL so that the outer join works.

This is working for nearly everybody in my result set except where they have a future dated row in the job table. If they do the outer join doesn't work and they drop from the results completely.

Do you have any tricks or solutions which can solve this? It's a massive query already and I'd like to avoid doing a union if possible. The client only wants an additional field and this is causing me a headache!

I stumbled across this fantastic post about setting dependencies when building PeopleSoft Views on the Blogging About Oracle Applications site.

Essentially, in your record type properties, you can set a build sequence number. PeopleSoft builds views based on this sequence number by first building all views with sequence 0, then all views with sequence 1, then all views with sequence 2 and so on.

If you have two views: PS_XYZ_VW and PS_ABC_VW where the view PS_ABC_VW depends on the view PS_XYZ_VW because it uses PS_XYZ_VW in its view sql then set the build sequence like this:

PS_XYZ_VW build sequence 0 (build first)
PS_ABC_VW build sequence 1 (build second)

This will override the fact that alphabetically, PS_ABC_VW is before PS_XYZ_VW and will be built first by default (and fail).

Turns out that some of the data loaded from the demo HCRS database (hcengs.db) has keys that are case sensitive.

If SQL server is set up with the Latin1_General collation but the case sensitive flag is not set, then certain records will not import properly and throw errors during the demo database creation step (unique index errors). When you look at the keys causing the error you will find that the only difference is case of the key (e.g. TEST, Test, test). If your SQL server installation doesn't have a case sensitive collation set, these sorts of keys will cause an error as they won't be unique.

You can check case sensitivity of your collation using the sp_helpsort stored procedure.

This is an example of what is returned:

Server default collation
Latin1-General, case-sensitive, accent-sensitive, kanatype-insesitive, width-insensitive

GetRowset Scroll Context Error

If you've worked with the Rowset class then you've no doubt encountered the GetRowset record not found in scroll level error before. Here's a screenshot:

This can mean a few different things depending on the context of the error, but in my example, I was trying to use GetRowset with the scroll context when in fact I was already in the right context.

What I mean is that I was trying this:

 &rsSSR_CART_SUS = GetRowset(Scroll.SSR_CART_SUS);

In SSR_CART_SUS.GBL.SSR_CART_SUS.RowInit Component PeopleCode.

I'm already in the right context (in the SSR_CART_SUS scroll), so why am I trying to specify the scroll?

That's what the error is about. The correct syntax is actually:

 &rsSSR_CART_SUS = GetRowset();

Remember that working with Component PeopleCode is all about context - think about where your code is in relation to the structure of the component.

Accessing Data Archive Queries

Data archive queries do not seem to show up when you perform a search in Query manager. For instance, I know that there is a query called AUDIT_SCH_TBL in Campus Solutions, however performing a search for that query by name in query manager returns no results:

However, if I change the search by to type and set the drop down from user to archive - it suddenly shows up …

By the way you can use the advanced search functionality in query manager to search for an archive query by name.

e.g. When they were created, when a role was added/removed etc.

If so, what are the steps to switch it on and do I find the audit trail in the standard PSAUDIT table?

2 Pass file process in PS

I've got a process whereby I need to read a file, validate it against a Chartfield Lookup table in PS and then process the file to create a single Journal Entry. The issue
I am having is trying to understand how to go about this 2 pass process. The suggestion is to log rows without matching chartfields and then once the entire file has been validated,
correct those without chartfields and then re-run the process to completion. What if the first time through, there aren't any errors? Should it just process to completion? I'm a little
confused on how this will work without a working table to store the results of the validation on each row.

Attaching a 0 byte file gives a file not found error

When using file attachments in PeopleSoft if you attach a file that is 0 bytes (empty) then it will give you a file not found error (return code 9 - %Attachment_FileNotFound).

This can be quite frustrating if you think there's something wrong with the way you are calling AddAttachment!
